Classic Silly Putty
Classic Silly Putty

Silly Putty is the original fiddle toy.
Invented in 1940 as part of a government-sponsored effort to develop synthetic rubber compounds, no practical use was ever found for the substance. Ten years later, Connecticut-based marketing consultant Peter Hodgson got his hands on the stuff and started selling one-ounce wads of it in plastic eggs, under the name Silly Putty.

More than sixty years after Silly Putty was introduced at the International Toy Fair in New York City, "The Real Solid Liquid" has a permanent place in the canon of classic American toys.

You can "Pull it like taffy or break it like a biscuit," mold it into any shape, bounce it like a rubber ball, and magically lift pencil drawings or newsprint ink off a page.
